Still here..

Still around dudes, i'm just busy with some irl stuff, as well as sorting some new video stuff and i'm changing blog location, so all that needs resetting up :p

i've also noticed the YT channel's background image needs redoing now cos of their layout updates.. if ya hadn't noticed, it was perfectly aligned to stuff (took like 2 days), and they've screwed it in under 2 months lol ;) it's a major reconstruction job as well, won't be easy, but i'll sort it soon enough.

So.. anything to report?

Hmm, not really.. i'm enjoying the more relaxed pace of video again thats for sure.

I did love the daily stuff, but unless I shut down the vast majority of everything else (even including editing the videos), I was struggling for time.

There was 3 things I learnt from the month of daily videos though.

1: Shout outs/mentions.. people do like em, it adds something extra to the videos. I like em as well, despite em being quite off putting to read when playing ;) Gonna probably break em off for this week and bring em back next week when i've resettled into sets.

2: Daily content.. this was a big thing for me. I want people to assume they can head over to the channel and see something new every day, regardless of how much or little it is.

Recently, I had that nailed, but for some reason, was pumping out too many videos, which I think was me trying to get games down within a week at most.

In reality, it could be like 2-6 parts a day, and still be considered daily content and worth checking the channel frequently. It doesn't need to be like 22-24 parts a day :p

3: Video amount.. linking into the previous point, 2 hours regular every day is too much. It isn't too much to play, but it's too much to process and upload every day. It also swarms the people that don't have time to watch em all.

So really, I was swamping 2 outta the 3 groups involved (myself, people without time to watch 2 hours a day and people with time to watch 2 hours a day). Kinda senseless when you step back and look at it.

An hourish a day is respectable, and more than the vast majority of what other people do. It's also very manageable and not very swarming.

Ok, so how are things gonna go down from now on (in theory, still needs testing).

1: Dual games. No more 1 game till it's done stuff. Why? Well, here's a rough time table explaining why 2 games at once works better.

Monday - Record first set of game A. Process game A footage, begin editing work.
Tuesday - Record first set of game B. Upload game A. Process game B footage, begin editing work.
Wednesday - Record second set of game A (using comments from last set that've had time to build). Upload game B. Process game A footage, begin editing work.
Thursday - Record second set of game B (using comments from last set that've had time to build). Upload game A. Process game B footage, begin editing work.

and so on and so on.. except for Sunday where I catch up anything I need to, and do the SSO video.

2: No schedule.. as i said earlier, the schedule is killer. I'm naturally rebellious to any kind of schedule, cos it's just not how I work. It killed me some days ONLY doing an hour or two when I wanted to do more.. and other days it was killing me because I had to do 2 hours, when i'd have enjoyed an hour of A game, then an hour or something of B game instead.

The sets will give me the freedom to do as much or as little as I want again, with no guilt over missing deadlines (even though I never did.. i was late like twice, but never outright missed a day, or not without doubling the video time for the next day).

3: Editing. Cuts, montages and captions will be back where and when needed/wanted. If people want uncuts, i'll be doing something like that in the future, but the YT versions will be cut IF (cant stress that enough) it's needed. In some games, nothing will change.. in others, the cuts will make a big difference to before.

All in all, it should be more interesting to watch, and easier on me :] Just bear with me a bit while I move all the pieces around into a picture I like.

sounds good apart from the 2 games at the same time because it might get confusing to keep track of what you were last doing in the game but if its what you want to do you can do it

jld208: That sounds like a great idea to me.

Heh. Dual games sounds like something I do, only based on what day it is. I'd just switch once I got to a part I was not looking forward to or when I got bored. Hm. Well, the sets coming back was a good decision in my opinion, I'm sure others will agree.

And nice montage of the Nemesis takedown. Decent way to sum up a long battle in a minute or so and toss some music in there to warm people up for the game, again, in my opinion. :P

I think it'd be great to get editing into some of your videos

I have pissed myself laughing at the thought of a Nemesis fight in fast forward with the Benny Hill music playing in the background

Good ideas OTG.
I prefered it when there was only 6/7 videos per day, 24 parts to a day is far too many. xD

I look forward to the captioning and such again.
